A European DX Council meeting took place on November 21st, using Zoom. As the annual conference in September was postponed due to Covid-19, it was decided to hold an online gathering instead. This was suggested by Mauno Ritola in the summer.
The two-hour meeting went well, and was attended by two women and 29 men, with participants from 14 countries: Algeria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Republic of Ireland, Russia, Sweden, UK and USA.
As this was the first meeting of its kind for the EDXC, the structure was deliberately kept informal, and gave people a chance to meet up with old friends and make new friends, as well as talking a little about the DXing scene in their region. Subjects that were mentioned included online receivers, including a good resource at http://rx.linkfanel.net and Mauno Ritola’s at http://185.89.55.189:8073
Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS in Milan spoke about some exciting developments at the station, and mentioned the QSL card commemorating Covid-19 that was issued, “Stay home, stay safe: listen to Shortwave”.
A number of DX and radio topics were discussed, including details of DX clubs and publications. Sandipan Basu Mallick gave a highly interesting presentation on the Indian DX Club International, which has been running since 1980 from Kolkata. The club arranges DXpeditions and publishes a free, online radio bulletin called Asian DX Review, full of logs and features. Available at the Indian DX Club International website https://idxci.in
Paul Jamet told us about Radio Club du Perche in France. It publishes a bulletin six times a year a year and a list of transmissions in French twice a year http://radioclub.perche.free.fr
Dario Gabrielli spoke about RadioNotizie, an Italian DX bulletin that he publishes every two months. www.facebook.com/radionotizie
The dates for the European DX Council 2021 conference were announced. Providing that the world can overcome Covid-19 and that we are able to travel freely and safely, the conference will take place in Bucharest Romania, from 17th to September 19th 2021. Further details will be announced.
In addition to the EDXC website, there is also a social media presence, on YouTube (https://tinyurl.com/EuropeanDXCouncil ), Facebook (https://tinyurl.com/EDXCFacebook) Twitter (@DXCouncil) and Instagram (@europeandxcouncil). It was agreed to hold regular EDXC meeting on Zoom (in addition to the annual conference). The next one will probably be in late February.
